Jett Thompson
BlackBiography
Jett Thompson is an American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and professional submission grappler known for his aggressive, submission-heavy style and exceptional mastery of lower-body attacks. Widely regarded as one of the most dangerous leglock specialists in the modern no-gi scene, Thompson has built a reputation for his ability to finish matches quickly through extreme leverage, precise mechanics, and relentless pressure.
Thompson first emerged as a teen prodigy before transitioning into a dominant force on the professional circuit. After a runner-up finish at PGF World Season 6—losing the final to Andy Varela by mere seconds—he returned in 2025 with a breakout performance at PGF World Season 8. Thompson dominated the regular season and captured the playoff championship in September 2025, earning his black belt on the podium immediately following the victory.
Thompson is credited with modernizing the straight ankle lock and Aoki lock, applying finishing mechanics that blur the line between traditional footlocks and rotational leg submissions. While many competitors rely primarily on heel hooks, Thompson has distinguished himself by consistently securing break-level finishes using ankle-based attacks, making his leglock system one of the most feared in professional grappling.
Beyond the leglock game, Thompson is known for his well-rounded approach to submission grappling. He combines high-level wrestling entries, dynamic guard passing, and strong positional awareness, developed under the guidance of Jeremy Watkins and the Watkins Wrecking Crew.
In addition to competition, Thompson has established himself as an influential instructor and technical innovator. His instructional series, Mastering the Ankle and Aoki Lock, released through BJJ Fanatics, is a popular resource for modern leglock enthusiasts. Known for his professionalism and sportsmanship, Thompson remains one of the most prominent representatives of the new generation of submission-focused athletes.
Originally from Oklahoma, Thompson began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the age of nine and comes from a large family with six siblings. He is outspoken about his faith and his commitment to serving as a positive role model for younger athletes, balancing a fierce competitive style with a reputation for humility and discipline off the mats.
