Biography

Andy Murasaki is a Brazilian-Japanese professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of the sport’s most consistently dominant competitors in the lightweight and middleweight divisions. He received his black belt from Andre Galvao and is a key representative of the elite Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy in San Diego, California.

Born in Japan to Brazilian parents, Murasaki spent his early years between both countries before making the ambitious move to the United States at age 15 to pursue Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu professionally. His colored belt career was marked by exceptional success, including major titles at the IBJJF World, European, and Pan American Championships at the juvenile and colored belt levels.

Murasaki made an immediate impact as a black belt, winning the 2021 EUG Featherweight Championship in his debut and submitting veteran Gianni Grippo with a triangle choke. While originally known for his technical gi game, Murasaki has undergone one of the most successful transitions to elite-level no-gi competition among modern gi specialists.

His no-gi style centers on relentless forward pressure, dynamic passing chains, and precise positional control—attributes that have made his guard passing some of the most respected in the division. Since transitioning, he has earned wins over top-ranked no-gi athletes and cemented himself as a legitimate threat.

His growing reputation in no-gi led to a high-profile signing with the UFC to compete in grappling matches, expanding his reach beyond traditional BJJ competition and highlighting his rise as one of the most well-rounded and dangerous technicians of his generation.

In early 2026, Murasaki announced his official departure from Atos Jiu-Jitsu in response to the allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct surrounding the academy’s leadership. He has been seen training at Kingsway Jiu-Jitsu.
